TARBORO's 2nd SATURDAY
MAY 10, 2008 GALLERY OF PICTURES
This Second Saturday event falls on the day before Mother's Day, so this event will be dedicated to MOTHERS and we're planning a BIG day for all the Moms, Dads, families and friends in Tarboro.
The Tarboro Townwide Tag Sale was such a big hit that we're going to do it all over again. Everybody planning a yard sale, including churches, nonprofits and neighborhoods, have planned their yard sale for Saturday, May 10th (7am to 11am). We've put together the Tarboro Town-wide Yard Sale Directory so all the bargain hunters can use it like a treasure map.
We'll have a wide array of interesting taste treats for downtown visitors. The Main Street Cafe' will be back in business with new owners and will have their GRAND RE-OPENING on May 10th. They'll have all your favorites and MORE! Including ice cream! Be sure to stop by and give them a big Tarboro WELCOME.
Merci! on Church Street will have a coffee tasting in the morning, yummy foodies mid-day and a wine tasting in the afternoon.
Located at the Sullivan Building (across from the post office) they'll be offering chicken wings, smoked ribs and (if things go as planned) Farmville's micro-brewery Duck-Rabbit Beer.
A special thanks to Joe Pitt of Ace Hardware for providing us with his Popcorn machine and "Popcorn for the people!"
The folks from the Rocky Mount Juneteenth Commitee will be back again selling hotdogs and candy apples.
Louise Howell will also be back with homemade cakes, pies, preserves and local pecans.
La Familia, our newest Spanish/Caribbean Restaurant has an updated menu and will be offering a 2nd Saturday Special!
The Quigless Center will set up a HEALTHY CAFE' to serve lunch.
The Grassroots of Tarboro are planning to provide desserts for the event and do some fund raising to cover costs at the same time by having a BAKE SALE, with lots of home-made goodies.
We've got another GAME in the works.... it will involve Trivia and Motherhood.
For Mother's Day, the downtown businesses will have SIDEWALK SALES and be offering selections of affordable gifts.
There will be a crafts-making table with a variety of easy-to-make gifts that children of all ages can create for their mothers.
The Grindhouse Tattoo folks will be downtown creating temporary tattoos and doing face painting. They are also offering a chance to win a $75 gift certificate toward a new tattoo.
Myra McCall will be back with her luxurious mini-massages and Gift Certificates to give to Mom for Mother's Day.
There will be two BOOK SALES going on, Rose Cottage Books at 107 W. St John Street (around the corner from the Sullivan Building)will be offering some great deals on NEW books, and the Unusual Shoppe is sponsoring a USED Book Sale in front of the Royster-Clark building on Main Street to raise money for the Grassroots of Tarboro and future Tarboro 2nd Saturday events.
The multi-talented Gary Reid of Steadfast Ministries, local wood-worker/artist/musician will have a display set up offering his crafted wood designs.
The Edgecombe County Arts Council is exploring the idea of having a sale downtown...I'll fill in details as soon as I have them.
Monika Flemming, local historian and author, will lead a walking tour of the historic district on Saturday morning , for more information, contact the Blount Bridgers House @ 252-823-4159.
Christian Rap group, Soldiers Against The Darkness will be selling their latest CD to raise money for their ministry.
Tarboro's very own ORLANDO will be performing as a One-Man-Band in the vortex area next to the Unusual Shoppe on Pitt St. I'm certain we are all in for an interesting musical experience, what Orlando may lack in talent he makes up for in enthusiasm.
The Veteran's Museum is sponsoring an Art Show inside the Sullivan Building (AKA Constantine Building).
Nonprofit groups including the Edgecombe County Breast Cancer Awareness Task Force will use this opportunity to provide the community with valuable information.
Pieces of this month's event come together every day. Keep checking back, I'll be adding stuff as it gets locked into place. If you or your group would like to participate, contact us.
I've just learned that TASS, the Tarboro Association of Saltwater Sportsmen will be having their John Cherry Rockfish Rodeo on May 1oth on the Tar River. Join them at Riverside Park in the afternoon for the big Weigh-In.
We still don't have permission for outside speakers (hopefully we will for June's event) , so to have musical entertainment, we need acoustic musicians or unamplified singers OR people who don't mind performing inside with the audience outside. Please contact Betty if you have any ideas or wish to perform.
