TARBORO's 2nd SATURDAY - JUNE 14, 2008
GALLERY OF PHOTOS for T2S JUNE 14
Co-sponsorship by the Tarboro-Edgecombe County Chamber of Commerce allows us to have LIVE MUSIC on the court house square!
The street fair part of the day will be from 10am to around 3pm, then we will take a break for a few hours, clean up, re-organize and have a second round of evening music, food and activities from 6 until 10pm.
Starting at the Blount Bridgers house at 10am, Monika Fleming, local historian and author, offers a wonderfully informative walking tour of Historic Tarboro. For more information, contact the Blount Bridgers House @ 252-823-4159
Many downtown businesses will "bring out the deals" with sidewalk sales and our newest addition for downtown shopping, Cute As A Button, a children's clothing and accessories shop, will be celebrating their GRAND OPENING!
The Grindhouse Tattoo & Body Modification shop (Lin's Square), will be back again for the kids with face painting and temporary tattoos.
June 14th is Flag Day, a great time to visit the Edgecombe County Veteran's Museum and see their fascinating collection..
For the daytime music part of the event, Believin' Hearts has offered to come back again, too, so we'll start off the day at 10am on stage in the Court House Square with praise and worship sung in glorious heartfelt harmony. In the lobby of the Colonial Theater, also starting at 10am, The Country Boys band will play bluegrass and country music. At around 11am Gary Reid and STEADFAST , our favorite local Christian Rock band will be providing rocking-good music on the Square. Gary has informed me that Toby Waller will be joining the act and bringing his own smooth vocal sounds to the mix.
Starting at 1pm, Tarboro's own Anna Vaughn Creech is a member of the Greenville-based band, Social Experiment, they are looking forward to entertaining us with their acoustic sound that may possibly include a violin.
Starting off our evening session, beginning around 6pm, we are blessed to have The Golden Platter, Milton Bullock, a true musical treasure whose smooth voice will take your breath away . Two amazing young women, Amanda and Amber Rudd will be on stage with a medley of country and gospel favorites. The evening music is scheduled to last until 9 or 10 pm.
Once again, there will be a variety of food available including Peter Heffley's smoked ribs,
Bud's Grill will have his traveling concession stand set up at the Sullivan Building , Mary Ann Harris of Harris Furniture has arranged for a grill cooking "Hot Dogs - All The Way" with homemade chili to be set up near the corner of Main St and Pitt St with sales to benefit future T2S events. We'll have some food vendors offering festival treats like shaved ice, lemonade, fruit smoothies, curly fries, bloomin' onions and fried candy bars. Our favorite Frank, the Popcorn Man, will be back on Main Street. There should be also be scattered bake sales with sweets to eat and the Snapple trailer providing beverages, sponsored by Merci! Gourmet Foods and manned by a local Boy Scout troop. Merci! will also have a coffee tasting in the morning and a wine (or beer?) tasting in the afternoon. The Main Street Cafe' will be open with yummy sandwiches, ice cream and more. Jin Jin's Chinese Restaurant will serve up a big batch of eggrolls for easy finger food.
We'll be signing up members for the Tarboro Community Kazoo Band and after a brief practice with TCKB director Alice Webb, we will put on our first public performance around 2pm on the courthousesquare. Everyone can play a kazoo, so there is no excuse not to join in on the fun. We only have 72 kazoos available so contact us early to reserve an instrument.
Buddy Hooks from the Arts Council and Joel Bourne of the Veteran's Museum will be putting together an Arts & Crafts Gallery in the Sullivan Building and . Actually there may be more than one "Arts & Crafts Gallery". Several new artists and craftspeople will be setting up to sell their wares, including Kimbo King and Phyllis Talbot who will be selling personalized notepads, cards and specialty jewelry,
Leslie Orel of Silver Saddle Ceramics, Beth Walker of Corval Jewels and Grandma Elsie's Homemade Baby Quilts. Myra McCall will be "wo-manning" the table of arts and crafts from the Blount Bridger's gift shop. The Golden Living Center and The Fountains at the Albemarle may also have a few artists' work to display.
Local artist, Erica Coker will be hosting Swig and Splash, a BYOB art event at the Calvary Episcopal Church gymnasium. The Swig and Splash offers a relaxed social environment that enables people to come together and paint, while enjoying their favorite glass of wine, beer, or cocktails. No artistic experience is needed. You just bring the booze, and Erica will take care of the rest (i.e. paint, canvas, brushes, snacks, and a project). By the end of a two-hour session, you'll have your own completed artwork to take home! There will be two sessions from 1 to 3 and 4 to 6. You can check it out on her website ericacoker.com. We'll see if we can't reserve some "gallery" space to display the results.
If you are an artist, craftsperson, dancer, performer, musician, story-teller, stand-up comedian or "what-ever" and you'd like to be involved in this or any T2S event, contact Betty @ 252-567-0915 or email using the contact form on this site.
